Microsoft Begins Experimenting With Passwordless Logins For Windows 11 Computers

Microsoft is introducing a new way for Windows users to access websites by utilizing their biometric data, marking the beginning of the passkey era. Through the testing of its Windows Hello feature, the company is enabling users to log in to their accounts without the need for repetitive password input.

After Apple and Google, Microsoft is the latest tech giant to offer its users a password-free option, and understandably, it has started the process with the latest version of Windows 11 for PC users. Windows Hello works on select Windows PCs and allows you to unlock your device using fingerprint or iris recognition.

The passcode feature works on websites that support the technology, which is quite limited so far. The biggest advantage of using keys in these logins is that you can also access the website on your smartphone, which makes the integration flexible and convenient.

For example, imagine you want to log in to your Google account, but you don’t remember the password, a Windows computer allows you to log in through biometric support, which is much more secure than storing easy-to-crack passwords.

Using a password on a Windows 11 PC

As we mentioned, the Windows PC password works through the Windows Hello option. To start using the feature, go to the website that supports the keys and go to your account settings, where you can create a password. Once you’ve done that, log out and you’ll see a new login option with a password. The feature is compatible with both Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome browsers.

In addition to this installation, Windows 11 users can also manually set up a password manager that allows them to manage the passwords they create for different accounts and log in easily and securely. The feature is still in testing, so not all Windows 11 users will be able to use it, but it should be possible when the full release is available in the coming months.
